I am feeling so good after my Pilates class today, that I feel like I owe it to the rest of the world to tell you what you may be missing in your life. (Get ready for a long read...)
First of all, exercise does not come easy to me. There’s not much that I enjoy, so I tend to make excuses not to do it.
So here’s my Pilates story.
I somehow hurt my back almost a year ago. It started with some sciatica that eventually sent me to the emergency department. Afterwards, I was diagnosed with a herniated disc.
A friend told me that his sister really loves Pilates and that it is good for core strength. Then my PT recommended the same. Thankfully, I found Blue Sky Pilates.
Kellie is an amazing instructor. I took some private lessons with her, then started joining group classes twice a week. She is in tune with every one of her students and is able to pay attention to and individualize instruction for everyone, even in a group setting. She also varies the classes and the equipment all the time, so it never gets old or stale.
Here’s what has happened for me over the past 9-10 months:
-I don’t have back pain anymore. At all. None.
-I am stronger. I feel it in everything I do.
-Specifically, my core is stronger. It makes such a difference in the way I sit, stand, and feel. My form is better in cycling (the other form of exercise I actually enjoy) and it makes a huge difference in my stamina and endurance.
-I am stretching and moving in ways that I never would on my own. It is the BEST feeling, and I feel like my mobility and flexibility have increased greatly.
-I am getting an awesome workout twice a week! I mean, I sweat my tail off! It’s hard work. But it’s actually enjoyable. And SO worth it!
-Every single week I have at least one or two mini accomplishments. I am seeing and feeling constant growth. (Today I got closer to figuring out’ short spine’, which has been a challenge of mine.)
-I find myself starting my mornings at home with many of the Pilates exercises I have learned in class. They just feel good and kind of wake up my muscles for the day.
I introduced my teenage daughter to the classes, and she is also in love. (She says she is addicted to the way it makes her feel.) She tries to go three times a week when her schedule allows. It is also a bonding activity for us.
If you have never tried Pilates, you should consider it. I recommend it HIGHLY. Furthermore, if you are in the Raleigh/Cary area, don’t bother going anywhere but Blue Sky Pilates. The studio is beautiful and well equipped with all the Pilates gadgets I never even knew existed, and Kellie is so knowledgeable, approachable, and such an excellent teacher!

My mom and I enjoyed a wonderful semi-private session today with Amy at Blue Sky Pilates! The studio is clean and pleasant, there is a large and varied selection of grippy socks if you want to buy a pair (highly recommend), and the machines were in great condition. We got a deeply felt workout, and Amy gave us plenty of modifications based on our levels of fitness. Can't wait to go back!

I have worked with many pilates instructors and several studios in the area. Kelly, the owner, does a great job choosing excellent instructors. She is organized and has a beautiful studio. I have had back problems and this is the only exercise I can take and receive a both great strength and flexibility training. There are also classes that offer cardio work on the jump board.

I am so lucky to have found Blue Sky Pilates! I’ve been a regular at Blue Sky for over two years and its made a huge difference in my overall health! I’m knock-kneed and found it very difficult to do the group exercise classes at the gym. With Kellie at Blue Sky I find that I get a more concentrated workout and am building muscle in the parts of my body that are just right for me! I have have more energy too and feel so content that I’m doing the best thing for me!

Kellie is amazing. She has a high level of commitment and is very caring and attentive to everyone’s individual needs. When I travel, I always try other Pilates studios - none compare with Blue Sky! My friends and relatives always ask me if I’ve lost weight and the answer is always no - it’s the Pilates!

I cannot recommend this place enough. Kellie is so knowledgable and she makes us work hard in the best possible way! I came with chronic back pain and learning how to make sure I was positioned correctly has been key to my recovery! Plus she is very good at monitoring everyone's form and taking time to correct you if necessary.

I've been doing pilates mat and reformer for about 4 years. I moved to Cary in August of 2014 and searched for Pilates studios to continue my practice.  Kellie is by far the best instructor I have had. She is creative, VERY knowledgable about the Pilates system and the human body, and committed to making each student get the most out of their work-out. She has eagle eyes!  Since Pilates only really works if you are in the correct form, Kellie ensures that each student is using the correct alignment throughout the movements.  I'm really impressed that she can catch very small changes in alignment and fix them so you get the max benefit from the work out.  Blue Sky also has the highest quality equipment I have ever used. Most studios have  reformer only classes, or chair-only class, or tower only classes.  Because Blue Sky has everything, you might use a variety of equipment during the session.  This keeps the sessions challenging and interesting!  Starting Pilates is one of the smartest things anyone can do for their body.  And this studio is the finest in Raleigh. I promise!

Classes are excellent at Blue Sky Pilates. Kellie gives great guidance and prompts you through the routines, keeps it fun and fresh and always makes sure she gives 110% in every session. I started with Kellie about 3 years ago. I had had 2 back surgery's and just gotten over a flare. I had been told time and time again from doctors and physical therapists, that strengthening my core was key. I drove by her studio everyday and finally decided to give her a call. Exercise has never been my favorite thing. I don't get those happy, excitement endorphin's, and I don't sleep better at night, so finding something that I enjoy, an instructor that motivates me and something that I can see my money working for me is very important. I have tried personal trainers over the years and have never lasted with one longer than a year, but I have been with Kellie for 3 now and will keep her as long as she will have me!
I definitely wish I could afford to go more than 1 time a week, but I did get a gym membership locally and get in cardio work or other class work 2-3 times a week, but none of them give the core direction like her class. I say this because before seeing Kellie my back would flare up 4+ times a year and 1-2 of those I could be flat on my back for 3-5 days. During the time I have spent with Kellie, I have really only had 1-2 flare-ups a year and none of them have had me flat on my back. I don't know that I will ever be a fully advanced student in her class but every time I go, there is something that I pat myself on my back for accomplishing; that I couldn't do a year, a month or a week before. I am also more aware of my body and what feels right and wrong and for that I am truly thankful!

However, if you *really* want to know what sets Blue Sky Pilates apart from other Cary area studios it's Kellie. [She's the owner and instructor] Kellie is a pleasant, knowledgeable instructor. Her classes are motivating and challenging.

Kellie is awesome - she takes the time to get to know each person and their injuries/weaknesses.  She customizes each session keeping in mind each person's issues and she takes into consideration our preferences for the day.  She has no more than 5 people in a class so you get some key 1:1 time. Equipment pilates has helped to keep me from having to go back to physical therapy!  My core is stronger than it's ever been and I feel leaner and taller. The hour goes by so quickly that the session is over in a snap.  I love that it's a full body work out with elements of cardio and strength training involved. I definitely sweat throughout the session - It's harder than you think folks... Highly recommended!!  :)

For several years now as I have been approaching middle age, with the typical increase in general "aches and pains," I have been telling myself that I really should take a Pilates class to limber up and stay mobile.  However, it wasn't until I fell off a ladder and hurt my back that I got serious about it and signed up for the Beginner class at Blue Sky Pilates.  As a total novice to any type of regular exercise routine, I wasn't sure what to expect -- but after 2 months of a weekly workout, I can say that I LOVE my Pilates class.  Blue Sky Pilates is a friendly, non-intimidating place to get started on stretching and strengthening your whole body, and perhaps discovering muscle groups you don't even know you have!  Groups are small (maximum 5 students) and classes at various levels are conveniently scheduled throughout the week.  Kellie is obviously an expert in the field and manages to pay individualized attention to the physical strengths and/or weaknesses of each member of the class, all while keeping us moving together as a group. She also does a great job of mixing up the sessions so that each week is not simply a repetition of the previous week's class.  I usually can't believe it's been a whole hour when she says "and we're done for today!"  Knowing that many of her students have busy schedules that don't permit more than once a week classes, Kellie also is very helpful in "prescribing" at-home exercises and stretches that keep her students moving in-between their class times.  In just the short time that I have been working with Kellie, I catch myself thinking about how I'm standing/sitting/walking throughout each day, with a significant improvement in how I generally feel, even on days when I spend a lot of time at my desk.   Blue Sky Pilates is definitely a treasure among the various mass-marketed exercise studios in the area.   Check it out!

I had been walking past Kellie's first studio for a couple of months before my curiosity got the better of me and I made a call to her.  Although I'd done quite a bit of mat work, I'd never been on Pilates equipment before.  I'm always looking for something new to add to my routine and keep me moving, especially after not being able to exercise at all for a couple of years and gaining quite a bit of weight.  I was comfortable from the beginning, both with the studio and with Kellie.  Her classes are small and intimate, and Kellie goes out of her way to make everyone feel welcome, relaxed, and included.  I believe her degree is in sport physiology and it shows.  She caters every class to each individual's strengths and weaknesses.  She also offers several different types of classes (private and group, equipment, mat, chair, etc.), to keep things interesting. I've been working with her for almost two years now, but I still know when I've been to a Pilates class!  If you're looking for a fun, challenging workout in a beautiful, friendly studio, Blue Sky Pilates is the place for you.

Kellie is absolutely the BEST teacher ever! I was skeptical for years about Pilates, thinking it was too slow, not a good workout, etc., but after taking sessions with Kellie and feeling the difference in core strength and flexibility, I am a believer. My husband, an avid cyclist and amateur racer,  believed Pilates was a gimmick until I convinced him to try 2 sessions with Kellie. Now he is 100% on board saying he has never felt better. I've taken Pilates from other teachers, but none of the others have Kellie's natural teaching gift. She is motivating, explains the procedures clearly, and makes sure she understands any goals and/or physical issues along the way. We LOVE Kellie and Blue Sky Pilates!!!

Kellie, is just fantastic.  I was hooked when I started training with her, and Pilates has helped me tremendously with some injuries I have.  Plus, Kellie's background in athletic training lets her fine-tune my session to address those injuries.  Cannot say enough good things about Kellie and her approach to Pilates.

I've been going to Blue Sky Pilates for a few months now. Kellie truly is a joy to workout with. I've been doing the one-on-one pilates equipment and couldn't be happier. I was very nervous about trying Pilates, but knew it would benefit me with all the pings and pangs my body has after years of athletic abuse or overdoing it.
One of the great things about working with Kellie is that she understands what is going on when a movement hurts more than it should. She immediately adjusts the movement to ensure that I still get the right benefit without incurring injury.  She's extremely patient, and through her calmness I want to push myself further and be better. I feel energized when I'm done, and happier with my accomplishments. She moves around different equipment and nothing is routine (perfect for me). She watches how I'm positioned and ensures I have the right alignment, am breathing from deep within, and is right there next to me in case I lose my balance. I definitely think the prices are right for the customization I'm getting.

Kellie Loomis, Thank you for being patient with me and encouraging me to continue.
My injuries were such that I could not go on my daily walks, sit for long, or sleep through the night. Just after two months, Blue Sky Pilates has given me the tools that I need to start feeling myself again. After each session, I feel like I have had the best massage that stays with you all week. I feel stronger and more limber. Now I am walking taller enjoying this beautiful Fall weather.
